Weekend rule for federal offices: Holiday on Saturday -> observed the preceding Friday; holiday on Sunday -> observed the following Monday (federal employees, Mon-Fri schedule). Cities decide their own trash schedule, so a Saturday holiday may still change Friday pickup in one city and nothing in another.
Other days some cities observe
Several cities on this site also change pickup on days that are not federal holidays, such as the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Good Friday, Election Day or a local holiday. Those days appear in each city’s own holiday table.
Check your own pickup day
The holiday delay checker takes your city and usual pickup day and shows the next three holidays with your actual pickup day. The calendar download puts every pickup and holiday shift into your phone’s calendar.
